The Hover Car
How one girl in China inspired a viral sensation
When we launched Volkswagen’s ‘The People’s Car Project’ we wanted to inspire the people of China to create new ideas for cars. In 2012, Volkswagen brought one girl’s idea for a hover car to life. We celebrated the girl’s idea by creating a film, which featured her parents test-driving her hover car. The film was then revealed to her at a private movie premiere, where her friends, family, and a flash mob joined in celebration.
Case Study
The film went viral even outside of China. With over 80 million combined views on Facebook and YouTube it is one of the most successful earned media cases for Volkswagen to date. It got us a Gold in PR at Spikes Asia.
